The locals of Almerimar recommend the local Hipica based in the nature reserve.  This is where the local police keep and train their horses, so no need to be alarmed by the police vehicles when you first arrive.

Ideally suited for hacking around the nature reserve and beaches and exploring the local area.

Open from 0900-1300 and 1600-nightfall or 1800 in the winter it is 10 Euros an hour.

If you fancy a trek through the mountains the Cortijo Colorao in San Roque - Berja (Almeria) are the people to go to.  They provide horse trekking in the Alpujarra lasting 1-5 days.  They also provide schooling and have a pony club.
